Japan - Looks like the Wii is down by more than half a million units in one year, considerably worse than the PS3. Is the Wii losing momentum, is this a normal market-leader occurrence, or is this the result of a horrible holiday lineup?

Out of nowhere today, the game Trine was announced for PSN... and one viewing of the trailer immediately had lots of people in the office buzzing. Seriously, if you haven’t seen it yet, check this out:

Exit 2 Coming to Xbox Live Arcade

You have to love videogame ratings boards. The latest inadvertent game announcement by way of a ratings report comes out of Germany, as the "Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle" (sounds so much cooler than the ESRB, doesn’t it?) has rated Exit 2 for the Xbox 360 (via Gamerbytes). Presumably, that means the PSP sequel will eventually be joining the original Exit on Xbox Live Arcade.

Counterfeit purses are such a 20th century swindle. If you want to be a modern grifter, it seems you have to dabble in counterfeit Nintendo DS handhelds now. Gamasutra reports that the U.K. government’s HM Revenues & Customs department recently seized hundreds of counterfeit gaming consoles at numerous freight depots, most of which were fake DS and DS Lites. The HMRC is now warning consumers against purchasing these counterfeit products online, as they have untested and potentially dangerous power supplies.

Nintendo has launched the official website for the North American version of their Club Nintendo promotional service (via Kotaku), where gamers can earn bonuses by buying and registering Nintendo games and products. Unfortunately, there’s really nothing to see on the site right now, other than a promise that the service is "coming soon," and a few new details on how it’ll actually work. Observe:

PS3 Sales Double Week-to-Week in Japan

The last week of November may have been hugely important for retailers in the U.S., but it seems Sony saw their biggest gains (relatively) in Japan. For the week of November 24 to November 30, the PlayStation 3 sold 34,978 units in Japan, more than doubling the 17,436 units it sold the week prior (via PS3Fanboy). What caused this sudden surge? The release of Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, it seems. Consider it the Madden of Japan, because lord knows Madden sure isn’t the Madden of Japan.

Lets face it PS3 fans out there, the PS3 is not going to win this generation.  The king has been dethroned by the combined effort of Microsoft and Nintendo.  The new casual market, third-party developers going multi-platform, the slow start to the PSN, lack of promised features… all these things have hurt PlayStation 3.  But nothing has hurt it like its price.

Is Windows 7 Too Much Like Mac OS X?

Is Windows 7 leaning too much towards the Mac side of life? Many Microsoft bloggers are saying that it does, that Windows 7 is too much "form over function", something they accuse Apple of. While superficially they may have a point, the differences between Windows and Mac OS X are still glaringly obvious. Are a few changes to the taskbar enough to make Windows OS X-like? Bloggers like Mary-Jo Foley, Paul Thurrot, and others seem to think so.

It appears that neogaf members, have had a glimps at the real meaning behind the whole !+i fiasco. While looking up on the famitsu page, japanese speaking members there, read a too early, leaked statement from famitsu. They were stunned to see that it was all for Soda !

Famitsu, took it down after about 5 minutes, and replaced it.

Remember the days of comparing the “length” of RPGs by how many CDs they came on? Since DVDs became the standard media format we missed doing that in the PS2 / Xbox / Gamecube era. The Xbox 360 doesn’t have a fancy Blu-ray drive so Microsoft and Square Enix are going back to basics by releasing multi-disc RPGs.
