BioShock 2's 'Capture the Sister' mode isn't kidding around
Post by :Shirley 2009-10-28 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley
The citizens of BioShock 2's undersea dystopia, Rapture, love them some ADAM -- especially when it's been freshly harvested by a Little Sister. It's with this in mind that Digital Extremes tweaked the tried-and-true Capture the Flag multiplayer contest to place one team in charge of abducting one of these adolescent creepsters while the other must lay their lives on the line to protect her.

First Brutal Legend DLC dated Nov. 3, initially free on PS3
Post by :Shirley 2009-10-28 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

EA announced today that the "first DLC" (that means there'll be more, right?) for recently released Brütal Legend will be arriving November 3 and November 5 on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, respectively. Named "Tears of the Hextadon," the two, totally not RTS maps ("Circle of Tears" and "Death's Fjord") will set you back 400 ($5) on Xbox 360. If you're a PS3 owner, however, the map pack will be free of charge for the first two weeks. "We love the PS3," EA's Brent Dady said over on PlayStation Blog, speaking on the publisher's decision to offer the DLC for free on PSN until November 19.

New LEGO Rock Band trailer will brick your screen
Post by :Shirley 2009-10-26 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley
At this point, many of you have likely already formed an opinion on the blocky cousin to your regular, run-of-the-mill Rock Band: LEGO Rock Band. This latest trailer should then either completely excite you or induce a lifeless "meh." For us, it's definitely the former, with the best part of this trailer obviously being the very brief look at Chuck Norris rocking the guitar, right around the 58-second mark.
Oh, and a little "Final Countdown" certainly doesn't hurt.

A look at multiplayer in LocoRoco Midnight Carnival
Post by :Shirley 2009-10-26 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley
The upcoming LocoRoco Midnight Carnival features a competitive score-based multiplayer mode. While this sounds like a good idea, this new video from the PlayStation.blog reveals that it's not very competitive. When connected with a friend over wi-fi, you'll be able to see their position on the map, and you'll see who's in the lead. However, you won't be able to interact with them in any way -- at least, not according to this footage.

Post by :Shirley 2009-10-26 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

You never want to bring a third person along on a date -- not unless that date happens to be November 10th. Infinity Ward’s community manager Robert Bowling (A.K.A. fourzerotwo) has taken control and confirmed that a third-person camera viewpoint will be available in this holiday’s monolithic Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, though it’ll be limited to specifically labeled online playlists.

Fat Princess: New Pork map coming 10/29, is free
Post by :StarKiller 2009-10-26 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

"Oh man, I can't wait for the New Pork map for Fat Princess. It'll probably cost money and not come out until next year." Well, fictional person made up for this blog post, you are wrong! New Pork, a brand new map revealed during PAX, will be available to all players this Thursday, 10/29, as part of the upcoming 1.03 patch. In addition to the new map, the patch tweaks a number of issues and even introduces two new control methods. "Two new control schemes have been implemented to allow players to use the R1 button to attack and to free the player's right hand for target switching. This is AWESOME," says the PlayStation.blog.
Additionally, the no-blood mode now features candy confetti -- a delicious way to kill opponents and make your parents happy. It's a win-win! If that's not reason enough to log back on, we don't know what is.

This is it: a dancing Michael Jackson cat game for iPhone
Post by :Supervirus 2009-10-25 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

When Robot Symphony alerted us to its upcoming iPhone debut, MeowWalker, we were prepared to dismiss it out of hand based only on the premise of combining Michael Jackson with the staple of lazy internet humor, cats. But instead of a tasteless cash-in, the trailer for the dance game (after the break) reveals what could turn out to be our, well, third favorite Michael Jackson-based game, right after the Genesis Moonwalker and the arcade Moonwalker. Sha-meow!

Dead to Rights: Retribution dev diary is loaded with dog fighting
Post by :Supervirus 2009-10-25 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley
Don't let the headline throw you -- we don't mean the bad kind of dog fighting. We're talking about the kind of dog fighting where well-treated, justice-loving canines attack gun-toting criminals who pose a threat to their master, whom they love and remain eternally loyal to. When cast in that light, attack dogs aren't menacing or controversial -- they're just heartwarming companions (with enormous, razor-sharp teeth).

Elder Scrolls novel listing mentions next game, set 200 years after Oblivion
Post by :Supervirus 2009-10-25 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

Though Bethesda's bigwigs have gone back and forth on the existence of another installment in the Elder Scrolls franchise, an excerpt from online book retailer Waterstone's product listing for Elder Scrolls: The Infernal City seems fairly certain of the series' continuance. The listing -- which was recently edited to remove the following savory quote -- mentions that the novel takes place 45 years after Oblivion, adding that "it partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis."

Uncharted 2 exceeding sales expectations, DLC coming before the end of 2009
Post by :Shirley 2009-10-24 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

With all the resounding critical praise that Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2 has received thus far, it's good to see creative director Amy Hennig speaking up on the possibility of DLC for the game. "We're working on that now ... there will be DLC available before the end of the year," she told IndustryGamers today. Though she's not yet revealing very much on what exactly the content will entail, she did say it may include, "new maps, new characters, things like that ... some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable."
