Will the Xbox 360 Price Drop Boost Sales
Post by :Supervirus 2009-08-30 Source: examiner Editor:Shirley
Microsoft is dropping the price on the Xbox 360 once again. Offering the Elite model for $299, the Pro 60GB model for $249, and HDD-less Arcade model for $199, Microsoft has plenty of variety and options for the consumer to choose. The real question isn’t about the systems available, but will the price drop increase the sales of the system?
Launching in 2005, Microsoft is about to have the Xbox 360 on shelves for the fifth holiday season. With console generations running about 5-6 years lately, Microsoft would have the Xbox 360 entering the elderly years now or mid to late 60's-- of course, you have to take into consideration that Microsoft has stated the system isn't even at the halfway point yet. There have been rumors that Microsoft will release a new console with the upcoming Project Natal built-in late next fall, but nothing concrete has surfaced from those reports, yet. With the Xbox 360 preparing to enter golden years of the console lifespan, will this price drop increase sales of the console?

Post by :Supervirus 2009-08-23 Source: industrygamers Editor:Supervirus
The new World of Warcraft expansion titled Cataclysm is definitely the largest announcement from BlizzCon 2009, but other revelations were made about the company’s major franchises. StarCraft II, it was revealed, will start its multiplayer beta testing in 2009, while the game will ship in 2010.
"I’m confident the beta will start this year," Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime told BlizzCon Live Stream host Geoff Keighley [thanks Shack News]. "We don’t have a date yet, but that is a focus--we’re working on getting the beta ready. We don’t want to put it out too early."

Overheard@GamesCom: Kicking babies is bad
Post by :Supervirus 2009-08-22 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

The protagonist in Activision's Singularity has the ability to age and, um, youth-enize people and objects, which led to a burning question on the minds of a few people during a presentation of the title during GamesCom. See, when you age enemies, they'll turn to dust. However, when un-aging them, they'll turn into "Reverts," creatures in an unnatural state that can assist or attack the player. It only seemed reasonable to those in the room: Why wouldn't they be turned into babies?

Halo 3 ODST's multiplayer disc: all frag, no Chief filler
Post by :Supervirus 2009-08-22 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

The easiest way to think about Halo 3 ODST's multiplayer disc is that it's Halo 3 Multiplayer Complete. That was our takeaway from a meeting with Bungie at GamesCom today. Discussing "the other game" in the ODST box, the Bungie rep reiterated, "It's all the multiplayer maps we released with Halo 3, then all of the DLC we've released since then, along with three new maps."

Rumor: Walmart catalog lists $100 price cut for Xbox 360 Elite
Post by :Supervirus 2009-08-22 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

Oh, man. This ish just got real, son. Last week, a supposedly leaked Meijer's catalog revealed a $100 price cut for the Xbox 360 Elite SKU -- we weren't sure what to make of it, but a recent Walmart catalog (due to hit stores on August 30) revealing the same exact discount adds a hefty amount of credence to rumors that Microsoft is dropping the price on the console's 120GB SKU. You can see the full ad posted after the jump, courtesy of one of our readers (thanks, Patrick). A few sites have gotten the ad, assumedly from different sources, leading us to believe it's not just a high-quality fake.
