Capcom is still worried about all of this Swine Flu business, apparently, as MTV Multiplayer revealed that the company will not bring Dead Rising 2 to upcoming PAX (or Games Con, either). Instead, Chris Kramer, senior director of communications, revealed that the next glimpse of the game will be at the Tokyo Game Show, in late September.

Glu developing Modern Warfare 2 for mobile phones
Post by :Oct 2009-06-25 Source: joystiq Editor:Oct

It's true that we haven't played a "video game" on a cellular device (at least, one that wasn't an iPhone) since our lengthy Snake sessions back in 1999 -- though we imagine there's a contingency of folks out there who get excited for mobile adaptations of console games. For instance, you may find yourself thrilled about Glu's next mobile project -- a version of Modern Warfare 2 that's coming to Androids, Blackberrys, BREWs, J2MEs and Windows Mobile phones in Q4 of this year.

Each week Mark Methenitis contributes Law of the Game on Joystiq ("LGJ"), a column on legal issues as they relate to video games:

Maybe you heard about the verdict that just came out in one of the music file-sharing cases: $1.9 million for 24 songs. So, what does this have to do with gaming? More than you would probably imagine, since this gets to the root of copyright and statutory damages. In fact, EFF legal scholar Fred von Lohmann posted an interesting piece on whether the penalty is even Constitutional. Whether this is the suit that breaks the back of statutory damages has yet to be seen, but it's something that any media producer or consumer should be keeping an eye on.

Horse riding, rock climbing, gambling, dating, clubbing and exercise; these are but a mere few of the options available to people looking for a recreational activity. With so much choice of possible activities in the world these days, how does online gaming stack up against everything else out there?
In this big old world of ours where the amount of choice one is subjected to seems endless, you’d think that the relatively lonely, unsociable world of online gaming would be a last resort choice for the multitudes. However, millions of ongoing subscribers the world over would prove said person’s thinking wrong. So what is it then that online gaming has that sports, dating and the like, lack?

PlayStation 3 owners were left behind when Valve released its hit zombie shooter Left 4 Dead last year. Any hopes that the follow-up would land on Sony’s console were more or less diminished by a recent comment from Valve’s Doug Lambardi.
Over the weekend, a listing for Left 4 Dead 2 on PS3 appeared briefly on the EA Website. The listing was quickly updated -- the PS3 version was removed -- leaving many PS3 owners hopeful that EA accidentally spilled the beans on a secret 'L4D2 for PS3' plan.

Firmware 2.80 coming soon, does very little [update]
Post by :Oct 2009-06-24 Source: joystiq Editor:Oct

It's deja vu time. Another firmware update which seemingly does nothing. Firmware 2.80 has, according to PlayStation Network's Eric Lempel, a single feature. "The playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 format software has been improved." Of course, it's bound to do something, so the first person to download and discover the trophy improvements / added video codec compatibilities / kitten spawner* wins a cookie. Should be out within the next 24 hours, if other releases are anything to go by.

Along with working on two major current-gen games in Darksiders: Wrath of War and a Warhammer: 40K MMO, THQ-owned Vigil Games is packing up its stuff and moving to a brand new 33,000-square foot studio in another part of Austin, TX. What are gamers, if not obsessive? It's the reason collector's editions and gotta-catch-em-all games like Pokemon exist. Another example of our obsessive nature? Overanalysis. Eurogamer's Digital Foundry has picked apart Team Ico's The Last Guardian trailer in an effort to determine whether the footage was taken in-game or not. The video rundown (which you can view on Eurogamer) is certainly interesting, particularly to those with some knowledge of 3D artistry. Even if not, at least it's an excuse to watch the trailer again.

Analyst: PlayStation Motion Controller better for core gamers than Natal
Post by :Oct 2009-06-24 Source: joystiq Editor:Oct
Hey, remember that Gamasutra feature where Michael Pachter said Xbox Twitter was the greatest thing of E3? Yeah, well in that very same feature, Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz had some choice words for the PlayStation Motion Controller. Specifically, Creutz believes that while Project Natal may have gotten the bulk of E3 coverage, the PlayStation Motion Controller is the better peripheral for hardcore gamers.

EA's getting a new slapsticker for its NHL series of games, as the Chicago Blackhawks' right winger, Patrick Kane, will be gracing the cover of NHL 10. Drafted in 2007, the kid has been a great player since hitting the ice, and is a solid choice for the cover. But is he a better choice than the competition's cover guy?
