We sure hope the new Sonic 4 isn't a remake of this Sonic 4
Post by :Yukicheng 00:12:54 Source: Joystiq Editor:Yukicheng

Here's a fun little piece of 16-bit history for you -- did you know that when Sega made its big announcement last week, a game called Sonic 4 had actually been floating around for 14 years? Sure, it's not an official Sonic game, mind you -- it was merely a modded version of the classic Sunsoft SNES platformer Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos. 1UP recently shared the game's illicit history -- a group of Peruvian hackers known as Twin Eagle Group got their hands on the game in 1996, removed all instances of the hasty Mexican mouse, and replaced them with Sega's spiny mascot.

EA Sports Planning a Facebook Version of Madden
Post by :Yukicheng 23:57:03 Source: 1UP Editor:Yukicheng

Prepare to see messages like "First down! Rudiger Smith completed a 15 yard pass in Madden NFL!" flooding your Facebook news feed soon: Speaking to Bloomberg Television, EA Sports president Peter Moore revealed they're planning on making a version of Madden NFL as a Facebook app.
"We have to make Madden more accessible," Moore began. "You'll see us on Facebook going forward." This, naturally, would be a "simpler experience" than the yearly console versions of Madden, Moore said, but he left any other details about the project out.

Microsoft shutting down Xbox LIVE for original Xbox titles
Post by :Yukicheng 02:42:19 Source: firingsquad Editor:Yukicheng

A Gamerscore blog post from Microsoft's Marc Whitten reveals that MSFT plans to shutter Xbox LIVE service for the original Xbox on April 15. This includes Xbox games playable on the 360 and Xbox Originals. Here's the post in its entirety:
Dear Xbox LIVE Members,
On April 15 we will discontinue the Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox v1 games playable on Xbox 360 and Xbox Originals. I want to start by saying this isn’t a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community.
Seven years ago we laid out our vision for the connected console when we launched Xbox LIVE. We believed then that the power of the Internet to connect people would revolutionize living room entertainment. It started with amazing multiplayer games, and we’ve since seen that bet pay off again and again with the launches of Xbox 360, Marketplace, Netflix and powerful social features like Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm. None of this would have been possible without the success of LIVE as a multiplayer gaming network.

Post by :Shirley 23:40:31 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

You've wanted one ever since seeing it in the very first trailer for BioShock 2. You even have one for your Xbox Avatar. Now you can buy a real, official replica of the cuddly "hand-made" Big Daddy plush doll that's featured in the game.

Adding up Sony's quarterly sales numbers for the PS3, including the 6.5 million Q3 sales it announced yesterday, Shacknews arrived at a new estimate for the console's life-to-date sales total: 33.71 million units. That's just about half of the Wii's most recent total of 67.45 million, and about 86% of the Xbox 360's recently-announced 39 million. The gap is narrowing!
Industry survey shows iPhone growth, console development preference
Post by :Shirley 23:13:42 Source: joystiq Editor:Shirley

Alright, alright, calm down -- before you break out the bottle of kerosene for a completely baseless flame war, we're going to point out that the following survey results are from a "comprehensive 55 question survey" of "more than 800 video game professionals from North America and beyond who read Gamasutra, subscribe to Game Developer magazine, or attend Game Developers Conference." We'd also like to note that the not-quite-recovered economy is likely playing a larger role than we can tell at the moment. All that said, the 2009/10 State of Game Development Survey shows that small development houses ("50 employees or fewer") have grown seven percent in the last year -- a statistic pretty much directly tied to the 25 percent of developers now working on "mobile platforms" (nearly 75 percent of which name the iPhone directly).

Inafune hints at overseas release for Monster Hunter Frontier
Post by :Yukicheng 19:07:05 Source: joystqi Editor:Yukicheng

Not all Monster Hunter games make it outside of Japan. The Wii port of Monster Hunter G, for example, was passed over, as was Monster Hunter Frontier, the PC MMO upon which the upcoming Xbox 360 game is based. That’s why it’s noteworthy that Capcom’s Keiji Inafune told Famitsu (according to Andriasang’s translation) that "I feel Monster Hunter can definitely succeed overseas. There’s a high possibility that MHF will kickstart that." For such a kickstart to take place, the game would have to be released overseas.

Xbox 360 120GB HDD discounted in the US too, again 'while supplies last'
Post by :Yukicheng 18:55:08 Source: JOYSTIQ Editor:Yukicheng

After discovering that the Xbox 360 120GB hard drive has been discounted in Europe "while supplies last," Joystiq has now learned that the drive has been discounted in the United States as well. When asked if the European discount would make it overseas, a Microsoft representative informed Joystiq that the drive has been reduced to $129.99. Again, the rep noted that the discount will apply "while supplies last," which implies that the 120GB drive won't be around for much longer. When asked directly if the unit was being discontinued, the rep stated only that she couldn't comment.

Like a mean cousin, Upper Deck steals Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh! cards
Post by :Yukicheng 01:03:33 Source: joystiq Editor:Yukicheng

Konami announced yesterday that Upper Deck had been forced to settle with the company after allegedly printing hundreds of thousands of faked Yu-Gi-Oh! cards in China and bringing them stateside. On any other day, this news would just be kind of funny, but it's elevated by attorney for Upper Deck Richard Howell who said "At this point, Upper Deck doesn't have a lot of Life Points. We're talking about behavior that, from a defense attorney's standpoint, I can't defend and I am not going to defend. I'm here defending a counterfeiter. And now I have to deal with that issue."
That's right: Life Points. Dude learned enough about Yu-Gi-Oh! to drop Yu-Gi-Oh! references. Man, that's the kind of lawyer you want to have. ... Unless, we guess, you're Upper Deck, in which case, it seems like you probably could have chosen a guy that didn't tell people how guilty you were.
