Also over at CNET is this article on another Intel news item, Turbo Memory. As you know, the premise behind Turbo Memory is to use flash memory to speed up Windows Vista performance. It was originally launched in notebooks but the tech is becoming increasingly prevalent among desktop PCs as well. Now Intel is launching their second generation of the tech, Turbo Memory with User Pinning.
With User Pinning, the end user can select which apps or files are loaded into Turbo Memory’s cache, providing a performance boost for these apps. Intel includes a Turbo Memory Dashboard to accomplish this task from within Windows Vista. The dashboard even includes support for custom profiles, allowing you to create a profile for 3D games vs 2D apps for instance. The technology is supported by Intel 4-series chipsets.
Intel has a wealth of info on the new tech over on their website, including a brief product demonstration of the dashboard and how it works.
