Sony plans to shrink their Cell processor used in the PS3 to 45-nm sometime next year。

According to published reports in Japan, Sony plans to shrink their Cell processor used in the PS3 to 45-nm sometime next year, currently Cell relies on a 65-nm manufacturing process.

By shrinking the processor to 45-nm, Sony should be able to compete more easily on price with Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console, whose Xenon CPU is already at 45-nm, and it's widely believed that 45-nm GPUs are also in production.
