Blizzard announced that their upcoming RTS, StarCraft 2 will be released as a trilogy, with each race having its own distinct game. The first game in the series will be focused on the Terran campaign, and will be titled "Terrans: Wings of Liberty". The second game will highlight the Zerg campaign with the title "Zerg: Heart of the Swarm", while the final game will cover the Protoss campaign and named "Protoss: Legacy of the Void".
According to Blizzard, the second and third games should be considered expansion packs, although these campaigns will each have enough content for a standalone game. Blizzard stated they decided to do this so they wouldn't have to reduce the length of any of the campaigns. Each expansion could take a year or more for Blizzard to produce, and in this Joystiq interview they haven't committed to an expansion pack price for the two follow-up games.
It will be interesting to see how StarCraft fans react to this move. Blizzard has always offered expansion packs, but this is the first time they've split the campaigns for each race into separate games.
