Intel has recently cut prices on a select group of CPUs ahead of the Core i7 launch this quarter. The most significant cut for our readers is probably the Core 2 Quad Q8200, which saw its price reduced from $224 to $193. The popular Core 2 Quad Q6600 also saw a price cut of 5%, from $193 to $183.
Intel also rolled out a new dual-core Core 2 Duo E7400 CPU priced at $133. The E7400 runs at 2.8GHz with a 3MB cache and 1066MHz FSB. As a result of the E7400's introduction, the E7300's price was reduced to $113. Intel also trimmed prices on their E2220 and E2200 CPUs to $74 and $64.
As always, keep in mind that these are the prices Intel charges distributors when CPUs are purchased in quantities of 1,000, not street prices. Street prices for Intel CPUs tend to be slightly higher than distributor pricing.
