Have you been mysteriously disconnected from Xbox Live over the last 12 to 24 hours? If so, you’re not alone -- after complaints flooded the Internet about frequent disconnects, Major Nelson confirmed last night that the online service is indeed experiencing connectivity issues, and Microsoft is looking into what might be causing the problem (via Kotaku).
"In the past few hours, the Xbox Operations Center noticed that large numbers of members were disconnected from Xbox LIVE, some more than once," the statement reads. "Our Engineering teams are actively working to determine the root cause of this issue and to prevent it from happening again. If you are disconnected, you should be able to reconnect after a few minutes. Thanks for your patience as we work quickly to solve the issue."
So what could be causing the problems? Maybe it’s early hiccups in preparation for the launch of the New Xbox Experience? Or perhaps too many people playing Gears of War 2 and overloading the service? Who knows, but hopefully Microsoft will get it figured out soon. There are way too many hordes out there that need killing right now.
