The North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) has given the Top Industry Driven Technology Company of the Year award to Epic Games.

The North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) has given the Top Industry Driven Technology Company of the Year award to Epic Games, reports Edge Online. The award, nicknamed "the Cary," is given to the company based in North Carolina that has done the most to advance the state’s technology sector. Epic was recognized for its Unreal Engine 3, which Epic says had a "positive impact on the entertainment software industry." Last year, Epic received the title of "Large Company of the Year" from the same organization.

"We’re honored to be recognized by the NCTA as an industry leader in technology," said Epic Games president Dr. Michael Capps. "The other nominees are trailblazers in their respective fields -- for a game company like Epic to be singled out as the award winner is very flattering." The other nominees for the category specialized in pharmacy automation (Parata Systems), job matching (PeopleClick), and railroads (Railinc). Unreal Engine 3 was most recently used for Gears of War 2. As games are more accepted by mainstream culture, it’s good to see a game company recognized for its work among other, more traditional, technology leaders.
