Molyneux Thinks Fable 2 Would Be 'Great' as Digital Download

"Any way that more people can play it, the better," was Lionhead Studios boss Peter Molyneux’s brave response when asked about major price-slashing on Fable 2 taking place in Europe, but according to the same story from GamesIndustry.biz, Microsoft could possibly have other plans in the works. Molyneux said that a full digital download version of Fable 2 "would be a great thing for this studio to work on," but refused to say more lest he "be killed to death."
Microsoft has never confirmed plans to sell retail Xbox 360 titles as digital downloads, but according to Molyneux they’ve got a good reason to test it out with Fable 2. Apparently the first Fable was one of the best-selling games on their Xbox Originals download service. "It was one of the highest selling, if not the highest selling, [Xbox Originals title]," Molyneux said.
Although Microsoft and Molyneux aren’t talking further about this, it would fit in with constant rumors that Microsoft is looking to move much more strongly into download-based platforms and away from traditional retail game sales. Being able to download such a huge next-gen console release would be a major step into the digital distribution future. We’ll keep watching for any news on whether Molyneux’s hints come to fruition or if they’re just another example of the notoriously hype-heavy creator dreaming big.
