Media Molecule is working on a fairly significant patch for Little Big Planet.

Each week, Sony answers questions from the community about Little Big Planet on PlayStation.Blog. This week’s update went up yesterday without causing much of a splash, explaining that changes to level moderation are coming, explaining the cause of several common problems, and reaffirming that Little Big Planet merchandise is coming -- but not until next year. All good to hear, but it was in the comments of the story that we got some real (albeit sparse) information.

Responding to a question about plans to release new levels, a LBP producer going by the name ’efong’ said, "Yup, new levels have been in the works for a while (but require a lot of testing/fixing/balancing)." Asked about the status of a previously mentioned patch, efong replied, "Yup, we’re working on a fairly significant patch. Hope to have an update for everyone soon. Keep checking back." And as for new content for the Create side of LBP, you can expect to see that "VERY soon...biting my tongue soon..."

No, we don’t have any hard details or dates, but it’s reassuring to know that both Sony and Media Molecule are hard at work on fixing and expanding the game. The game’s long-term success will largely depend on the ability for all of the kinks to be worked out, and with the potential for major money to be made off of downloadable content, there’s no reason to believe we won’t see the majority of issues resolved in time.
