Ever heard of The Great Giana Sisters? Possibly you haven’t, which wouldn’t be surprising since Nintendo did everything they could to smother it back in 1987. The game was a blatant Super Mario Bros. clone, and was blocked from release under threat of Nintendo’s legal arm. But now, in a surprising turn of events, Game|Life reports a remake will be released next June in Europe... for the Nintendo DS, no less.
The remake is being developed by Spellbound Studios, where Armin Gessert, the game’s original programmer, now resides. It’ll feature updated graphics and remixes of the game’s original music, which will no doubt be wasted on the majority of players who never got to try the original game out in the first place.
A U.S. release seems unlikely, as Game|Life explains the lack of any significant knowledge of the game in the states may compel Spellbound Studios to skip the market. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
