Doritos’ Unlock Xbox contest which started all the way back in June 2007 has reached its ultimate conclusion with the release this week of the winning concept as fully realized Live Arcade game. Fans voted Mike Borland’s concept for Dash of Destruction as their favorite from five finalists, and since last year he has been working with developer NinjaBee -- the studio behind games like the recent A Kingdom for Keflings, and popular Outpost Kaloki X -- to create the game.
The official game page over on the Xbox site includes this description for Dash of Destruction:
Doritos’ Dash of Destruction is a fun and fast-paced racing game. Charge your way through the city as a hungry Tyrannosaurus Rex, destroying everything in your path as you chase a speeding delivery truck full of tasty Doritos. Or, try zooming in and out of the T-Rex’s path of destruction as a terrified delivery truck in search of your Doritos drop-off points. For even more racing madness, play in Chaos mode with up to four friends as each of your dinosaurs chase after the same truck. If it’s peace and serenity you’re looking for, try Zen mode, where your only goal is to complete all your deliveries before time runs out. But watch out, for you really are what you eat. Beat the clock and taste victory!
Branding or not, from the screens the concept appears to have turned into a potentially fun take on the city-destroying monster action that fueled several installments of the Rampage series.
And you can’t beat the price. Dash of Destruction will be available for free to both Gold and Silver Xbox Live members on Wednesday. I’ll take the Cool Ranch version, thanks.
