Today, the BBFC listed Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars as having an "18" rating. This will make the game the first DS title to have such a rating.
The game has not yet been rated by the ESRB, the North American equivalent of the BBFC, although we would guess that an "M" rating is likely for the title.
The description of the BBFC website says the game, which features an already somewhat controversial illegal drug selling mini-game, "contains very strong language and drug references." Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will release on the DS in March 2009.
Last month, during a quarterly conference call, Take-Two Chief Executive Ben Feder acknowledged that his company will "do a lot of learning with GTA: Chinatown Wars on the DS in terms of bringing that kind of content to a Nintendo platform." If GTA proves successful on DS, we could very well see more GTA and other mature content on the handheld and the Wii.
