The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) recently unveiled an initial list of video game companies participating in the new, expanded E3 show this year. Most of the industry took note that megapublisher Activision Blizzard would be attending after ditching E3 in 2008, but as it turns out only Activision intends to be there.
A Blizzard spokesperson confirmed to Giant Bomb, "Blizzard Entertainment will not be attending or participating in E3 2009."
Of course, Blizzard does hold its own BlizzCon event each year to showcase its games portfolio and make any new announcements, but that show is usually held later in the year (last year's was in October).
E3 2009 will take place June 2-4 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The vast majority of the games industry will be exhibiting but there are still some notable companies missing, such as NCsoft and Codemasters.
