Times are bad. When you're going broke, you've got to sell things to pay the bills and keep the kids fed. And when that happens, it's time to sell the game consoles.
This according to an Associated Press report in the Chicago Tribune (via Kotaku), in which they report that the current recession has seen pawnbroking group Cash America rake in more than $1 billion in revenues for the first time ever. While you might value your console of choice, your Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and other consoles don't keep food on the table, and that means they're a few of the items at the top of the list.
"We're seeing a lot of expensive video game systems, PlayStation 3s and Xbox and others, and a lot of LCDs (flat-screen televisions)," said Ace Pawn Shop manager Chris Banul.
The materials mostly come from people who are afraid of losing their home. People, said president of the Indiana Pawnbrokers Association Greg Engstrom, who have better merchandise than what pawnbrokers are used to seeing. Tough times indeed. Would you be willing to sell your Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii if things ever got really bad?
