One of the biggest retailers online is pulling a GameStop and accepting used games for credit. Expect gnashing of teeth from the industry to come soon.
Amazon.com today revealed that it will be formally entering the used gaming space. A new beta service allows customers to trade in games in good condition (e.g. include the original packaging and be undamaged) for an online gift card. Only titles worth $10 or more are eligible to be traded in, with shipping available for free with a printable shipping label.
The online retailer has been allowing customers to sell used titles on their own titles via the site. Amazon has recently opened a store for downloading casual titles, a move that has drawn some criticism. With the controversy surrounding used games in the industry, we would expect comment about this latest move by Amazon to come down the line soon.
