It seemed very doubtful from the beginning that they'd try a move like dropping Blu-ray, and now Sony has quashed the rumor.
Recently, Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey caused a stir when he predicted that the PS3 would receive a price cut soon. Not only that, Hickey went on to say that he was "hearing continued speculation that Sony is working on a non-Blu-ray PS3 console." While Sony flatly denied the price cut plans, a complete response on the future of Blu-ray hasn’t come until now.
"That would pretty much destroy the PS3’s backbone, our games were built on Blu-ray," said Sony marketing manager Kim Nguyen to The Business Insider. "Quote that: Blu-ray will always be part of PS3."
