Capcom announced today that Resident Evil 5 has shipped over four million units worldwide. This marks the first time that the series has shipped to multiple consoles at launch and is also the largest initial shipment mark in the series history. Resident Evil 5 was the best selling title in Japan during its first week of availability, netting nearly 400,000 units in sales.
The Resident Evil series has shipped over 40 million copies to retail as a whole. Also worth noting, the Resident Evil movie trilogy has generated over 300 million dollars and the CG film Resident Evil: Degeneration has shipped over 1.5 million copies worldwide.
