Net-Asia, a Tokyo-based market researcher, just released some new findings in regards to Japanese gaming trends. The poll surveyed Japanese men and women, aged 10-40, that still actively game and own a video game console.
According to their findings, 28% of Japanese gamers own only a Wii, on average aged 32, while 4.3% owned only a PS3, average age 26. 5.6% own both consoles. PS3 gamers tend to favor playing by themselves, with 77% playing solitary the majority of the time, while 78% of the Wii owners said they played primarily with family. PS3 owners were also big fans of action games, while Wii owners tended to prefer RPGs.
When asked why they owned their respective consoles, 81% of the PS3 owners responded that they bought it for the gamse, while only 52% of Wii owners got their system for the games. 66% of the PS3 owners also cited graphical prowess of the system as a reason to own it, with the Blu Ray player being another reason. 37% of the Wii owners snapped up the console up to be used as a health tool, with otther reasons included increasing family communication and to try playing games in a new way.
So there ya have it, the average PS3 owner in Japan is a young graphics whore that tends to enjoy playing action games by themselves.
