When Nintendo president and CEO Satoru Iwata took the stage at his company's E3 2009 press conference, he talked at length about the distinction between gamers and non-gamers. He talked about how relative level of skill means that there's a gap between hardcore and casual gamers. Iwata thinks that Mario Kart Wii was a first step in bridging the gap, with New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Sports Resort being the next steps.
With that said, he introduced a "new way of thinking about games" in the Wii Vitality Sensor. Attaching to the bottom of the Wii Remote, the other end slips over a finger. Using the feedback provided by the Wii Vitality Sensor, Iwata stated that he hopes to "achieve greater relaxation" in its users.
During the Wii Vitality Sensor's announcement, IndustryGamers sensed a numb reaction to the device from the audience. Some appeared baffled at the device and others laughed audibly. We're curious to find out more and interact with the device ourselves.
