Treyarch today revealed on the official Call of Duty website that Call of Duty: World at War has sold 11 million copies since launching November 2008. This impressive number was achieved in less than half the time Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare took to achieve 13 million in sales. Call of Duty: World at War's first map pack has been downloaded two million times.
"These outstanding feats would have never been possible without the continued dedication and support from all of the loyal Call of Duty fans," read the news post. "For that, we at Treyarch and Activision would like to extend our sincerest Thank You. We're honored and humbled to have one of the greatest online communities in video game history behind our products!"
This goes to show that, despite being less of a critical darling and set in the omnipresent World War II, there's still a huge demand for both the series and the setting. We're also sure that the offline co-op and the nazi zombie multiplayer mode in Call of Duty: World at War helped as well. Amazingly, Activision is expecting Modern Warfare 2 to sell even better!
