Recent documents filed with the FCC as uncovered by Sony Insider [thanks Joystiq] show that Sony’s PSP Go actually packs a heftier punch than previous PSP hardware models. The specifications show that PSP Go’s processor has a clock speed of 480 MHz, which compares quite favorably to the current PSP’s 333 MHz. You might also recall that the PSP was at one point locked in at 222 MHz until a firmware update for the portable enabled the full speed of 333 MHz to be utilized.

We’re very curious to see if the PSP Go will be locked in at 333 MHz or if Sony will ship the hardware with the full 480 MHz enabled from the start. If it’s the latter, developers will suddenly be able to make use of greater processing power, and this would likely lead to titles that are exclusive to PSP Go, rather than standard PSP games that get released on UMD as well as digital download.

We’ve pinged Sony to see what we can find out, and we’ll update accordingly.
