Command & Conquer 4 Finally Confirmed

 

 

Electronic Arts has officially announced Command & Conquer 4, confirming earlier leaks from a survey and their Twitter feed. As noted in the survey, it is being billed as the end of the 15-year saga, with humanity being on the "brink of extinction." 

 

The story will take place in 2062, an era in which Tiberium has rendered the planet almost entirely uninhabitable. With GDI and the Brotherhood of Nod being forced to work together or die, we'll apparently being seeing the culmination of Nod leader Kane's "decade-long plan."

 

New features will include the "mobile bases" that were mentioned in the survey, as well as class-based gameplay and persistent player progression throughout all game modes.

 

A five-versus-five, objective-based multiplayer mode which will "promote teamwork and cooperation" was also mentioned in the survey, and sure enough it will be appearing in C&C4 as well. We can only assume that means we'll also be seeing stylized FMV "in the vein of Minority Report."

 

The first trailer is due to debut on July 23 on Spike TV. The game itself will be arriving on PC sometime in 2010.
