Epic Games: PS3 price cut would have made Sony's year worse

Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, has stated that Sony’s financial woes would have only been exacerbated had the company opted to lower the price of the PlayStation 3 earlier this year.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Rein commented, “The truth is Sony has had a difficult year and I think they had to do what they had to do to try to be profitable,” adding, “They have their own financial issues to solve and lowering the price of the console would probably have made their situation worse.”
Despite this, Rein remains optimistic for the future, stating, “They will get around to it in their own good time. If you’re willing to look at this as a long-term play, they’re going to be just fine.”
Finally, he said he felt the industry was not quite ready to embrace “PlayStation 4 or the Xbox Whatever,” and believes the current generation of platforms will be sticking around for a while thanks in part to the new motion-sensing devices for Xbox 360 and PS3.
