It was only a matter of time with the way the Wii has been selling. It has now surpassed the Xbox 360 to make it the best selling console in both the United States and the rest of the world.
Today, Nintendo announced that their Wii console sold over 666,000 units during the month of June, according to the NPD. Since the system’s launch, the Wii has sold a total of 10.9 million consoles in the United States, making the Wii the best selling home game console in the U.S., eclipsing the Xbox 360. This event wasanticipated last month.
"Wii was created with the goal of expanding the gaming universe through its intuitive motion-sensing controller," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "As we have demonstrated this week during the E3 Media & Business Summit, Wii continues to pioneer new ways for people to interact with their video games and with one another."
